Course Summary
This course is for you if you have an interest in the Irish language and you would like to develop your skills in speaking and communication and also learn more about the literature and history of the Irish people.
All lectures are conducted through Irish. You will study amongst other topics, the language, literature, oral tradition, and film - spanning a period from Fionn and the Fianna to TG4.

Career Interests
This course is typically suited for people with the following Career Interests. If these interests do not describe you, this course may prepare you for work you may not find satisfying.
Linguistic
The Linguistic's interests are usually focused on ideas and information exchange. They tend to like reading a lot, and enjoy discussion about what has been said. Some will want to write about their own ideas and may follow a path towards journalism, story writing or editing. Others will develop skills in other languages, perhaps finding work as a translator or interpreter. Most Linguistic types will enjoy the opportunity to teach or instruct people in a topic they are interested in.
Career Progression
Irish generally leads to a career in Irish media, such as radio broadcasting, television, newspapers and publishing. Translators are employed both here and abroad, as well as the teaching profession at all levels. As Irish is now an official language of the Eu there are many new opportunities for employment as translators.
