This one-year course introduces students to the broad and expanding sector of Sport Science. An interesting course that will provide students with the skills, knowledge and qualifications necessary to gain employment in the sports sector. With the combination of modules, students can avail of the science award with some coaching modules and sports anatomy and then continue to higher education to study health or sports science.

The Investigative person will usually find a particular area of science to be of interest. They are inclined toward intellectual and analytical activities and enjoy observation and theory. They may prefer thought to action, and enjoy the challenge of solving problems with sophiscticated technology. The Social person's interests focus on interacting with the people in their environment. In all cases, the Social person enjoys the personal contact with other people in preference to the impersonal dealings with things, data and ideas found in other groups.
Many will seek out positions where there is direct contact with the public in some advisory role, whether a receptionist or a counsellor. Social people are motivated by an interest in different types of people and like diversity in their work environments. Many are drawn towards careers in the caring professions and social welfare area, whilst others prefer teaching and other 'informing' roles.

Career Progression
Graduates may pursue science certificate or degree courses in TCD, UCD, DCU, TU Dublin City Campus, IT Carlow, Athlone IT, UCC, TU Dublin Tallaght, St. Angela’s College Sligo. as well as other ITs and colleges around the country or in the UK. For example, there are up to 21 places in Maynooth University, 30 places in UCD science courses and 10 places in Trinity in First Science for QQI graduates. Students can progress to PE Teaching via an undergraduate degree at IT Tralee or Cork University and to the Postgraduate Master in PE Teaching at UL. Alternatively, students may seek immediate employment in a range of companies and projects that seek graduates with a science aptitude.
