The aim of this programme is to enable the learner to develop the knowledge and skills to work in a supervisory or managerial role in the equine industry or to progress to further or higher education and training.
In North Connaught College, Sligo, our students will be facilitated to explore equine studies with a view to re-skilling/up-skilling and exploring concepts and subject areas that may interest the learner in future programmes or employment. It will also enable the student to take responsibility for supervising the running of a riding school, training or competition stables.

Naturalist
Not surprisingly, some aspect of the natural sciences will run through the Naturalist's interests - from ecological awareness to nutrition and health. People with an interest in horticulture, land usage and farming (including fish) are Naturalists.
Some Naturalists focus on animals rather than plants, and may enjoy working with, training, caring for, or simply herding them. Other Naturalists will prefer working with the end result of nature's produce - the food produced from plants and animals. Naturalists like solving problems with solutions that show some sensitivity to the environmental impact of what they do. They like to see practical results and prefer action to talking and discussing.

Career Progression
This programme prepares the student for managerial roles in the equine industry. The learner will be prepared for work in a supervisory position in riding schools, studs, competition stables, livery stables, young horse training and dealing yards. The training for Level 6 will also prepare the learner for the British Horse Society (BHS) exams up to BHS Stage 3 and BHS Stage 3 Teach. Students could go onto further education such as a Higher Certificate in Business in Equine Studies in Athlone Institute of Technology, Co. Westmeath, Equine Business in NUI Maynooth, Co. Kildare or the BSc in Equine Management in Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh.
