Garda Vetting
This programme requires applicants to undergo a Garda Vetting process. This requirement is due to the mandatory external placement element of the programme which will bring the applicant into contact with children or vulnerable adults and in which they will assume positions of trust. In the Republic of Ireland responsibility for the vetting of all personnel working in a full-time, part-time or in a voluntary capacity with children or vulnerable adults, lies with the Garda Central Vetting Unit (GCVU) which is located in Thurles. University College Cork (UCC), the co-ordinating institution of the joint award PME Art and Design, has engaged with the GCVU to develop liaison mechanisms which will aid the Garda Vetting process. Commencement of school placement and registration on the programme are subject to full compliance with the University’s policy, practice and requirements in respect of Garda Vetting.
