The Student

Career Interests

This course is typically suited for people with the following Career Interests. If these interests do not describe you, this course may prepare you for work you may not find satisfying.

Enterprising

Enterprising people like situations that involve using resources for personal or corporate economic gain. Such people may have an opportunistic frame of mind, and are drawn to commerce, trade and making deals. Some pursue sales and marketing occupations. Many will eventually end up owning their own business, or in management roles in larger organisations. They tend to be very goal-oriented and work best when focused on a target. Some have an entrepreneurial inclination.

Social

The Social person's interests focus on interacting with the people in their environment. In all cases, the Social person enjoys the personal contact with other people in preference to the impersonal dealings with things, data and ideas found in other groups.

Many will seek out positions where there is direct contact with the public in some advisory role, whether a receptionist or a counsellor. Social people are motivated by an interest in different types of people and like diversity in their work environments. Many are drawn towards careers in the caring professions and social welfare area, whilst others prefer teaching and other 'informing' roles.

Career Progression

Career Options
This programme is designed for participants focused on developing their careers to senior levels in business where strategic, financial, innovation, marketing and leadership skills are essential to success. The programme will help develop skills relevant to roles in both public and private sector organisations that require managers to address complex problems and apply skills of analysis and judgement.

For those who have graduated recently, the programme offers the opportunity to specialise in topics more closely aligned to general management roles. For those with work experience in specialist areas, it provides the opportunity to transition into managerial roles or to advance into more senior management positions.

Duration

1 year full-time, 2 years part-time.

The full-time programme runs over 12 months (3 semesters) from September each year. Participants on the part-time programme take the same classes as the full-time participants and the module load is spread over two years.

Timetable
Normally 4 days a month (36 days total, September to May) for full-time and 2 days a month (16 days total in first year and 20 in second year, September to May) for part-time. Lectures are normally held on either Thursdays or Fridays. The Business Consulting Project/Work Placement/Dissertation is completed June to August. Confirmed schedules only become available in September of the relevant year.

Confirmed dates become available closer to the semester start.
