Junior Cycle - Mathematics

Subject Group: Science
These subjects demonstrate how to explore nature using carefully planned methods, and teach the basic methods and findings of scientific investigation.

Brief Description:

In Mathematics, you will develop your problem-solving skills and your ability to present logical arguments. You will be better able to use what you learned in Mathematics in real life situations in everyday life and work.

Mathematics is a compulsory Junior Cycle subject and requires a minimum of 240 hours of learning.


How will Mathematics be useful to me?

Studying mathematics prepares you for business calculations, for handling your money sensibly and for courses in sciences, engineering and technology. You should see mathematics as an opportunity to strengthen your thinking skills.

The specification for Junior Cycle Mathematics focuses on developing students’ ability to think logically, strategically, critically, and creatively through the Unifying Strand and the four contextual strands: Number; Geometry and Trigonometry; Algebra and Functions; and Statistics and Probability.
