ATU Galway City awards academic scholarships annually to nine first year students based on academic merit. The recipients are those who have achieved the highest Leaving Certificate points in their particular School or campus of ATU Galway City

ATU Galway City awards up to twelve financial scholarships to the value of €5,000 each to support students entering GMIT who are from socio-economically or other disadvantaged backgrounds, or who have faced difficult personal circumstances.

 

Scholarships are available for Non-EU students giving up to a 15% discount off the quoted fee. If you are a Non-EU student thinking of applying to study in ATU then you may qualify for a scholarship in recognition of your English language attainment, your country of origin, or both.  For further information contact the International Office. 

To apply for the ATU Sports Scholarship programme, athletes/applicants must fulfil the eligibility criteria listed below:

1. Students must meet the GMIT admission requirements through the CAO system and must have registered on a programme of academic study at GMIT
2. Compete and perform at International, National, Inter-provincial, Inter-county and/or Senior Club level
3. Commit to an appropriate level of commitment to your club at ATU and represent the Institute in intervarsity and other competitions and/or training
4. Commit to making a contribution to the administration, coaching, promotion and development of the ATU club
5. Please note that meeting all the above criteria does not mean automatic acceptance to the Scholarship Programme.

This scholarship is worth €5,000 and is available to students from secondary schools in Mayo interested in studying Furniture Design, Art and Design, Film and Documentary, Engineering, Science or Computing in GMIT.

Tusla and the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth have secured Dormant Accounts funding to provide a Bursary Scheme to young adults who have had a care experience of at least 6 months and are aged 18 or over.   The funding is intended to support and assist young adults to achieve their full potential in education or training. This scheme will provide funding for young adults to access further education and to support their career development. It has been developed to support young people who are not receiving specific State funding for their education and/or training.  Eligible people will be able to apply for funding up to €5,000.

The Google Insight Scholarship programme is the largest scholarship programme of its kind in Ireland. With a funding package of 1.5 million euro, more than 60 undergraduate students will receive scholarship support between 2024-2029.

The scholarship will support 3rd level students from underrepresented and socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds and communities, with a particular focus placed on students studying courses related to artificial intelligence (AI) and digital safety.

The fields of AI and digital safety are rapidly evolving, and there is a growing need for scholarships to support students from underserved and socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds and communities. The programme aims to assist underrepresented students in completing their undergraduate degree, through scholarship funding and wrap-around support.

To qualify for the scholarship programme applicants must be from an under-represented socioeconomically disadvantaged background. Applicants will need to be registered with their university access office. Applicants will need to fall under one or more of the following categories, including but not limited to:​

HEAR Students​
DARE Students​
Members of the Traveller community​ and members of the Roma community
Lone Parents​ and Care leavers
Women in STEM

Successful applicants will be awarded €5,000 per year, up to a maximum duration of 5 years. Students must be registered with Atlantic Technical University Access Office, and also registered to one of the eligible courses.

Intel’s success in Ireland has been built on the quality of highly skilled and educated people available in the country. Through the ‘Women in Technology’ scholarship program, Intel hopes to increase awareness and encourage a new generation of high-achieving women to take up the challenge of a career in science and technology. We are directing this program through our partner MoU universities, with a focused approach targeting female students committed to disciplines with proven relevance to our business. Each university will advertise this program separately from September to October each year.

The North West Health Care Scholarship aims to invest in a 21st century health workforce that meets the needs of tomorrow and promote diversity in higher education by supporting young people from less advantaged and non-traditional backgrounds.  The scholarship aims to invest in a 21st century health workforce that meets the needs of tomorrow and promote diversity in higher education by supporting young people from less advantaged and non-traditional backgrounds.   The program will be delivered by Optum Ireland in partnership with Atlantic Technological University (ATU). The North West Health Care Scholarship Program provides three scholarships to ATU Donegal, two scholarships to ATU Sligo / ATU Galway-Mayo.   The value of each award is €10,000.  

ATU Galway City offers three scholarships for registered first year mature students.
There are three scholarships of €1,200 each for registered first year mature students. The scholarship is issued as a once-off payment.

Scholarships for those in the International Protection System living in Ireland who are not eligible for state supports and are progressing to higher education for the first time. Applicants must live within commuting distance of the GMIT campus they wish to attend.

The SSCA Scheme is a special entry scheme (worth up to 50 points) targeted at outstanding sportspersons and those who have made a significant contribution to cultural activities. 

Ten additional places will be reserved for candidates who are committed to further developing their sporting, cultural and academic careers.

GMIT supports the development of talented athletes and recognises the increasing need for them to successfully balance academic and sporting commitments. GMIT facilitates this vision through the Sports Scholarship Programme.

The Stephen Walsh Memorial Scholarship is an additional scholarship introduced for 2023/2024 and is specifically available for students accepting a course in the School of Engineering in Galway.

The SVP Education and Training Bursary Fund has been established to support students of all ages who may  financially struggle to access or stay in third level education and training programmes.

The purpose of this funding is to encourage participation and success by students from sections of society that are significantly under-represented in Higher Education. New entrants to Higher Education who are socio-economically disadvantaged, meet the income threshold and represent one or more of the target groups are invited to apply.  200 Bursaries are available nationwide, which have been divided amongst clusters of Third Level Institutions. ATU are part of the BMW Cluster together with NUI Galway and has received an allocation of six bursaries. The 1916 Bursary is worth €5,000 per academic year to each of the six recipients. 

These scholarships have been designed to support females pursue STEM-related education and aim to create greater female representation in STEM-related careers. This initiative is aligned to the “Sustainable Futures” Global Corporate Strategy of Trane Technologies.

This strategy deploys Trane Technologies resources to create opportunity for those under-represented in our industry so they will be equipped and inspired to lead innovation in our field, and in our world.
