The MIC Ashling Murphy Memorial Entrance Scholarship, in memory of MIC graduate, Ashling Murphy, is jointly awarded by MIC and the Irish National Teachers' Organisation (INTO) to the amount of €4,000.

The scholarship is awarded to a first year Bachelor of Education (Primary Teaching) student for their exceptional achievement (solo, ensemble and in the community) and talent in the field of traditional Irish music. Applications close on 1 September on year of entry.

MIC’s CAO Points Concession Sports Scheme is an academic entry scheme for performance athletes applying for a full-time level 8 undergraduate programme at MIC Limerick or Thurles.

Up to 10 places across all undergraduate programmes are reserved for outstanding candidates who have achieved a very high level of sporting performance and who are committed to continuing to develop their sporting and academic careers.

MIC’s Elite Sports Scholarships are available for students who have excelled in their chosen sport(s). MIC offers one Gold Scholarship valued at €4,000, two Silver Scholarships valued at €2,000 each, and two Bronze Scholarships valued at €1,000 each. Applications close on 1 May on year of entry.

MIC Departmental Assistantships consist of an annual stipend of €6,900 and a full fee waiver. Awards are annually renewable for a maximum of three years, with a fee waiver in the fourth year of normal registration. Holders of Departmental Assistantships are obliged to provide up to a maximum of 120 hours of assistance to their home academic department across the academic year (an average of 5 hours per week per semester) and may not exceed 10 hours in any given week. Departmental Assistantship Awards are made by the College implemented within academic departments.

The scheme, including  appointment contracts, annual renewal and discontinuation of Departmental Assistantship Awards, is managed by the Research and Graduate School.

The MIC Doctoral Award consists of an annual stipend of €12,600 and a full fee waiver. Awards are annually renewable for a maximum of three years, with a fee waiver in the fourth year of normal registration. Doctoral Awards are merit based and are awarded by the College (through a HR-approved competitive process operated by the Graduate School Director) to Doctoral applicants in Arts or Education.

MIC Doctoral Award holders are not required to perform any duties for their department, faculty or the College in general. However, should they wish to gain the experience, they may elect to perform some duties (e.g. tutorial hours) for their academic department. This may not exceed 48 hours per academic year (an average of two hours per week per semester) and may not exceed four hours in any given week. Approval of the relevant Dean will be required in these cases.

GAA Bursaries, valued at €750, are awarded on an annual basis in recognition of sporting achievements of male and female students within the arena of intervarsity, club, county and regional Gaelic Games.

The MIC GPA Scholarship Scheme is open to GPA members only who have applied for and are successful in securing a place on MIC’s postgraduate programmes in education and the liberal arts. More information about the MIC GPA Scholarship Scheme available here.

The MIC Postgraduate University of Sanctuary Scholarship Programme consists of an annual stipend of €3,000 and a full fee waiver participation for International Protection Applicants, refugees, and vulnerable migrant groups. The purpose of this scholarship is to offer financial support for those seeking international protection who have resided in the state for less than 36 months out of the last 60 months and who wish to undertake postgraduate study at MIC. Full list of Postgraduate Programmes available to view here. An annual scholarship is offered for the lifecycle of the postgraduate programme of study and includes a fee waiver and an annual €3,000 stipend.

MIC Studentship Awards (two offered annually – the Doctoral Studentship and the Postgraduate Studentship) consist of an annual stipend of €6,900 and a full fee waiver. One studentship is reserved for Doctoral applicants; the second can be awarded to MA or Doctoral applicants.

Awards are annually renewable for a maximum of three years, with a fee waiver in the fourth year of normal registration. Studentship Awards are merit based and are awarded by the College (through a HR-approved competitive process operated by the Graduate School Director) to Doctoral /MA applicants in Arts or Education. MIC Studentship Award holders are not required to perform any duties for their department, faculty or the College in general.

Students pursuing or intending to pursue research postgraduate degrees in Arts or Education at MIC are eligible to apply for the MIC Doctoral Award, MIC Studentship Awards and MIC Department Assistantships.

Typically, awards provide a subsistence bursary for the normal registration period of benefiting students, and in some cases also off-set tuition fees.

Munster LGFA will fund three bursaries, valued at €750 each, awarded to current MIC students (undergraduate and full-time postgraduate) who are involved in ladies football in Munster (playing, coaching, administration etc). Applicants must be a member of an LGFA club in a Munster county.

The SVP Education and Training Bursary Fund has been established to support students of all ages who may  financially struggle to access or stay in third level education and training programmes.

The 1916 Bursary Fund aims to enable students from socio-economically disadvantaged and underrepresented backgrounds to access higher education. To be eligible for a 1916 Bursary, all applicants must meet financial, target group and college entry eligibility criteria. MIC has a limited number of bursaries which are awarded to eligible applicants that present the greatest need.

Each year, MIC awards up to 50 Undergraduate Entrance Scholarships, valued at €2,000 each, on the basis of results obtained in the Irish Leaving Certificate Examination.

Only performance in the six best subjects taken at the same sitting of the Leaving Certificate will be counted. No special application form is required for the MIC Undergraduate Entrance Scholarships. Successful students will be notified directly.

The MIC University of Sanctuary Scholarships are awarded by the MIC Office of Equality, Diversity Inclusion and Interculturalism (EDII). This scholarship programme is designed to increase participation in higher education for International Protection Applicants, refugees, and migrant groups.

These scholarships offer financial support for those who wish to undertake undergraduate or postgraduate study at MIC. Four scholarships are offered to those seeking to undertake undergraduate study at MIC and two scholarships are offered to successful applicants seeking to undertake postgraduate study.
