The University of Limerick (UL) encourages and supports the participation of mature students on all of its programmes. UL recognises and acknowledges the increasingly challenging economic environment which students face, in particular those who are entering college as adult learners to undertake full-time study. The UL40 Mature Student Scholarship offer some financial assistance to adult learners commencing higher education on a full-time basis. A total of 10 scholarships, worth €2,000 each, are available.
The Ulster GAA Bursary Scheme scheme is open to players advancing to second year studies with us (except those who hold another GAA-related or college scholarship/bursary); and who are active participants in their chosen discipline.
Applicants must be:
Attending a full-time undergraduate course at a University or third level College
Eligible (under Comhairle Ardoideachais Constitution and Bye Laws), to play in Higher Education GAA Competitions
In their second year of study or above, i.e. ‘freshers’ are ineligible to apply
Not be in receipt of any other Bursary/Scholarship or Sports Academy Scholarships, where they are in receipt of ‘in kind’ benefits
Actively involved in their Higher Education GAA Club
Actively involved in a GAA, Camogie or Ladies Football Club in Ulster.

The Entrance Scholarship is automatically awarded and is available for students who have obtained the following in their Leaving Certificate (calculated from six subjects in one sitting):
Students achieving 400 points or more are awarded €500, to be deposited on “MyCard”
Students achieving 550 points or more are awarded €1,000.
The award is for one academic year following the student’s admission to the University, payable in two instalments – one in November and one in February (subject to the student remaining in good standing with the University). Campus accommodation is not included. There is no need to apply for this scholarship – it is automatically awarded to incoming first year students who meet the requirements
Each year, MIC awards up to 50 Undergraduate Entrance Scholarships, valued at €2,000 each, on the basis of results obtained in the Irish Leaving Certificate Examination.
Only performance in the six best subjects taken at the same sitting of the Leaving Certificate will be counted. No special application form is required for the MIC Undergraduate Entrance Scholarships. Successful students will be notified directly.

Buildng upon the work of the Inclusive Centenaries and Admissions Office scholarship programmes, the UoS Scholarship Programme opened for applications in 2019. The programme is designed to increase participation at the University of Galway among International Protection applicants, refugees, vulnerable immigrant groups and Irish Travellers. To date, the scholarship programme has welcomed 39 students from 22 different countries to the University.
Dublin City University was designated a “University of Sanctuary” in December 2016 in recognition of our commitment to welcome asylum seekers and refugees into the university community and to foster a culture of inclusion for all.
(DCU) is offering postgraduate scholarships to international protection applicants and refugees who are not eligible for state support.
UCD was awarded University of Sanctuary status in 2018 and is proud to welcome International Protection Applicants Refugees and those with Subsidiary Protection or Humanitarian Leave to Remain to study in UCD.
This Programme offers opportunities to study at different levels across UCD and provides free tuition and financial assistance for eligible applicants. The Programme currently supports 50 students across University Access, Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programmes. To be considered for one of these scholarships you need to:
Have either Asylum Seeker, Refugee, Subsidiary Protection, or Leave to Remain (except deportation stage) status and not be eligible for other state support
Have already applied to a course at UCD
Priority will be given to:
Applicants who have lived in Ireland for more than 12 months
Applicants living in Direct Provision centres

The University of Sanctuary Scholarship provides tuition fee waivers (i.e. no fees) to first-time higher education applicants who identify as a refugee, asylum seeker or a person in a refugee-like situation as defined by the UNHCR 1951 Refugee Convention.
The Sanctuary Award is an initiative of University of Sanctuary Ireland (UoSI) to encourage and celebrate the good practice of universities, colleges and institutes welcoming refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants into their university communities and fostering a culture of inclusion for all those seeking sanctuary. The Award aims to spread this culture of welcome across the institutions of higher education all over the island.
As part of its commitments under the UoS process, MU established a Sanctuary Scholarships Scheme for students from an asylum seeking or refugee background wishing to study at the University.
A MU Sanctuary Committee was set up to govern UoS activities, this is co-chaired by Dr Aoife Titley and Dr Rita Sakr and composed of staff and external experts, guided by the Dean FSS and VP-EDI.
