PLC courses are full-time, one or two year courses found at Level 5 or Level 6 on the NFQ. They all contain an element of Work Experience and are run by your local ETB in Schools and Colleges of Further Education around the country.
The Central Application Office processes applications into Higher Education courses (Level 6 up to Level 8) for all of the Universities and Institutes of Technology in the Republic of Ireland.
Direct Entry courses are those courses offered by Higher Education Institutions and Private Colleges that are not listed on the CAO system. As the name suggests, interested applicants apply directly to the college itself.
FET stands for Further Education & Training. These courses are also provided by your local ETB and are closely linked to the needs of the labour market. Examples of FET courses include Traineeships and Specific Skills Training courses. They can range in duration from a couple of weeks up to 20 months and often include a large element of Work Experience.
