Physics plays a crucial role in all of these areas. Physicists develop innovative technologies for these and other areas such as renewable energy, atmospheric monitoring, the green economy and many more.

Physics studies how our Universe works, from the smallest atomic nucleus to the largest galaxy. This BSc Physics with Medical Applications degree is aimed at students who want to learn about the application of the most fundamental of sciences to 21st-Century Medicine. Students undertaking this degree will still obtain a thorough grounding in modern physics, but will also take modules that gives them expertise in modern medical techniques, from CAT and MRI scans through to radiation and laser applications.

In the Physics of Medical Devices module, you’ll gain insights into the medical device industry, from the initial concept of a medical device to its manufacture. In the Diagnostic Imaging module, you’ll gain an understanding of the principles of how an image is formed using x-rays or sound waves, and be able to critically assess the important design features in such imaging devices for optimum image quality. 

This course equips students with the skills to manage the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of injured individuals by offering a unique blend of academic theory, practical workshops and clinical placements in the final year. The Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy is a four-year degree programme which includes a total of 31 weeks of clinical practice in the last two years of the programme. The one-year Physiotherapy Assistant (Health Service Skills) course is designed to equip the learner with the opportunity of obtaining a Major QQI Level 5 Award in Health Service Skills 5M3782. This course aims to equip the learner with the necessary skill required to progress on to potential employment as a Physiotherapy Assistant or a Health Care Assistant. This is a full-time one-year course and runs from September to May.

This one-year Physiotherapy Studies course introduces the core principles of rehabilitation, focusing on the assessment and treatment of mobility issues resulting from injury, illness, or aging. You will learn how to work with a Physiotherapist to assess and treat people whose movement is restricted by injury, illness or age.

On this course, you will develop foundational skills and knowledge in subjects related to physiotherapy, both theoretical and practical. This will prepare you for progression to Higher Level study.

Successful completion of this course will result in a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Physiotherapy Assistant 5M3782.

You will work on piping systems that carry all kinds of liquids, gaseous and solid materials, and provide a wide range of services including welding and fabrication in a variety of industries. MTU is the only Technological University or Institute of Technology in the country which offers craft level apprenticeship courses in pipefitting.
