This course is designed to assist students in identifying their career skills and interests. It is ideal for anyone who needs support in their preparation for the job market. It will also suit those who wish to improve their career-readiness but may also be considering further study in the future.

This apprenticeship consists of four on-the-job phases with an approved employer and three off-the-job phases in an educational organisation. Apprentices will be invited to attend their off-the-job training phases in accordance with the SOLAS scheduling system.

On completion of this four-year apprenticeship, you will become a fully qualified carpenter and joiner, with a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft – Carpentry and Joinery.

You will go on to be employed in the construction industry on building sites, in a joinery shop or in maintenance and other areas like renovating buildings, shopfitting, exhibition/display work.

Many craftspersons use their qualification as a platform to launch careers such as managers, owners of businesses and instructors amongst others.

It is strategically designed for individuals aiming to secure apprenticeships or progress into higher-level construction degrees, providing the hands-on experience and safety knowledge required for the modern building industry.

This one year full-time course at Post-Leaving Certificate level is designed for students who aspire to apprenticeships in Carpentry & Joinery or related trades. It also allows successful students the opportunity to progress into further studies at Third Level or Further Education.

You will gain practical experience in energy-efficient building techniques, from airtight construction to sustainable material use.The course also introduces furniture making, giving you the foundational skills to design and craft custom wood pieces, blending functionality with craftsmanship.

You’ll learn how to prepare and serve food safely, work as part of a team, and deliver great service. You’ll also get the chance to practice your skills on work placement with local employers, giving you valuable experience that can lead to a job or further training.
