This course offers people essential work skills. These are the kind of skills that apply to most workplaces. Most of the course involves computing, though it is not merely another computer course. It’s Bookkeeping, for example, is genuine bookkeeping – the kind that is coming into demand once more. This is about real learning that can be applied to real jobs. Most of us do not know exactly where we will work in the future; the wise move is to gain skills that will always be useful. This course offers just that.

This course will provide students with the knowledge, skills and competence to select, establish, grow and maintain a range of plants and vegetables. The horticulture and environmental sectors are vibrant and diverse. Gardening, commercial growing, green-keeping, sales and ground maintenance are just some of the possibilities open to you. So, if you prefer to work outdoors these training programmes could be just right for you.

These skills are complemented by general skills such as work experience in a horticultural environment, to give participants an opportunity to apply learning in a real work setting.

This is a QQI level 4 course and is also available to VTOS applicants if eligible. It provides students with a general all-round knowledge in key aspects of horticulture. Students are offered a good balance of practical and theory-based skills including: growing vegetables, horticultural practice, plant care and identification. This course will enable you to gain an understanding of the fundamentals of horticulture with real hands-on experience.

If you are interested in working in a shop, an office or hotel reception desk, this course will help you develop the skills and self-confidence to take on that challenge. Customer Service, Computer Applications and Retail Sales modules have been chosen because they teach the skills valued by potential employers for these type of public-facing roles.
