ATU Sligo offer a wide range of engineering programmes which include Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, and Precision Engineering and Design. This programme offers students the opportunity to study engineering in a general way for a semester before specialising in an area of their choice.

This general engineering semester gives students exposure to all different types of engineering and equips them with the fundamentals of engineering. This helps them to make an informed choice of what field of engineering to enter based on their aptitude and interest. On successful completion of Semester 1, students transfer into the Semester 2 of the programme of their choice subject to space availability.

Construction Economics is designed for those with an interest in the building industry and offers graduates a broad skills base for management of construction projects with a strong emphasis on cost. The need for managing costs when setting up sites and the efficient control of labour, plant and materials are vital for the successful completion of a project within an agreed budget. This programme employs the latest technology including 3D modelling, on-screen measurement and BIM readers.

The Higher Certificate in Computing is a two year programme where students begin in this shared first year alongside all other computing students across our programmes. At the end of Year 1, we counsel students on their next step, offering the following programmes to join: Computing, Computer Networks and Cyber Security, Software Development, and Games Development.

The Higher Certificate in Applied Construction Technology equips graduates with the skills and technical knowledge required to enter the construction industry at technician level. Students gain a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required in the construction sector. This programme is based around ATU Sligo’s state of the art construction workshops and as a result can deliver a unique experience to students by applying theoretical knowledge to practical projects. Students gain practical skills in carpentry and joinery as well as an understanding of how emerging technologies They will explore scientific principles and the behaviour of materials used in construction, understand current health and safety regulations and methods of quantifying materials for the construction of domestic buildings. 

On completion of this two-year apprenticeship, you will become a fully qualified manufacturing technician, with a QQI Level 6 Higher Certificate in Manufacturing Engineering.

You may then choose to work as a manufacturing technician in the manufacturing industry across sectors such as Pharma, Med-tech, engineering and food production.

This two-year Higher Certificate course gives you the essential Computing skills to start a career in industry. Software Development, Web Development, Scripting & OS, Cyber Security, Systems Analysis, Architecture & Networking, Software Quality & Test and are covered with mathematical foundations in Discrete Mathematics, Statistics & Management Science. You will have the foundations to start a career in career in this vital area that is so influencing the modern world. 

This course will introduce you to the fascinating world of the biological sciences. You’ll study a range of science subjects, including Microbiology, Biochemistry and Drug Delivery. Over the two years, you’ll gain around 400 hours of laboratory experience, experience that potential employers will value. The knowledge and practical experience gained in this course will set you on the way for other academic courses or directly into a job in industry.

This two-year course provides students with a strong foundation in the key aspects of business, producing a well-rounded graduate who can undertake a variety of business roles in an organisation. The broad and varied range of subjects offered provides graduates with the practical, work-ready skills they need to gain employment in a variety of companies, including project management, customer service, marketing, human resource management and financial roles.

The Laboratory Technician apprentice will be responsible for carrying out basic laboratory duties that may include sample collection, equipment calibration, solution preparation, stock control and glassware maintenance while conducting basic physical and analytical testing methods on raw materials, in-process or finished product. All work to be conducted and recorded in accordance with good laboratory practices.

Our Higher Certificate in Science in Pharmacy Technician is a two-year course that enables you to gain professional, managerial and technical knowledge to pursue a career in either hospital or retail pharmacies. The main aim of this programme is to introduce you to the required theoretical and hands-on skills to work in a pharmacy setting, and to contribute effectively to the enterprise. 

A dental nurse works as part of a dental team in a variety of clinical and non-clinical settings. In Ireland Dental Nurses are mainly employed in General Dental Surgeries, Dental Hospitals, Health Service Executive Dental Clinics or Specialist Surgeries.

The Higher Certificate in Early Childhood Care, Health & Education is a two-year course that equips graduates with the necessary competencies to work in a supervisory position with young children and their families. It is an invigorating and exciting career path with opportunity to gain employment as a lead Early Childhood Educator. The Higher Certificate programme is delivered with theory lectures, practical work, and group tutorial classes, adopting a spiral curriculum approach. This method progressively builds on the student’s capacity as an Early Childhood Educator, assessor and facilitator of young children’s learning and development through play.
