A course leading to a QQI Level 3 award in Business Administration is running at our Tralee centre in Co Kerry offering students the opportunity to achieve all, or part of, the NFQ Level 5 Certificate in Business Administration.

The course offered at our Tralee centre called ‘Applied Information Technology’ is designed to enable the students to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes necessary to obtain and retain employment in the private or public sector, in an office environment, or to progress to further training and/or education.

NLN delivers a number of catering courses which offers students the opportunity to achieve all or part of the NFQ Level 4 Certificate in Catering Support. Work experience is a significant element of this course and students can benefit from training in one our many state-of-the-art production kitchens.

The courses are designed to give students the skills and work behaviours needed to get and keep a job in the hotel, catering and tourism sector. The course is also designed to address the identified training needs of people with disabilities who are experiencing exclusion and labour market disadvantage, to provide learner-focussed training and related services and to assist the learner to achieve a nationally recognised qualification, which will aid progression to further training and/or education and employment.

Computer programming meets game design in this exciting course that offers you a route into one of the fastest-growing industries in the world.

You can tailor the course to suit your programming and your other IT interests, this is an excellent course for beginners who want to move into the digital entertainment industry or develop computer applications.

This is a practical based, two year IT course. It is designed to give participants a working knowledge of computer systems and a proficiency in office productivity tools. In addition, participants will acquire the skills necessary to implement and support PC systems and networks. From building networks and PCs to spreadsheets and databases, front and back-office skills are developed to give participants a broad platform to progress their career.

QQI graduates are eligible to apply to institutes of technology and universities for follow-on courses in their preferred field of study.

This course will provide students with the knowledge, skills and competence to select, establish, grow and maintain a range of plants and vegetables. The horticulture and environmental sectors are vibrant and diverse. Gardening, commercial growing, green-keeping, sales and ground maintenance are just some of the possibilities open to you. So, if you prefer to work outdoors these training programmes could be just right for you.

These skills are complemented by general skills such as work experience in a horticultural environment, to give participants an opportunity to apply learning in a real work setting.

Courses which lead to a QQI Level 4 Major Award in Sport and Recreation run at a number of our NLN centres. These courses are designed to enable students to build careers as future coaches, leaders and administrators in the sports and leisure industry.

It provides individualised training focusing on the specific career and educational goals of each student. These courses have been specifically developed to assist participants in gaining employment in the sports and leisure industry, or progressing onto further training and education in this field.

This programme enables students to acquire practical skills with a host company in a skill area of their choice. Running as a course in our centre in Tralee called Employer Based training, students partake in a combination of on-the-job and in-centre training.

An Employer Based Training Co-ordinator supports both the student and employer throughout the duration of the course.

Do you enjoy looking at buildings or watching house renovation programmes on TV? Ever thought of building your own home? Even if you have never done anything like this before but you like attention to detail, or you already have some experience but need to update your skills, this course could be for you.

The course uses the latest software and will cover key areas such as the preparation of drawings and plans in 2D and 3D, module making and design, surveying, BIM and 3D printing. The course will also help you to prepare a portfolio for further education.

Courses which lead to an QQI Level 5 and 6 in Early Childhood Care Education run exclusively at our Tralee centre.

This course enables students to acquire practical skills with a host company in a skill area of their choice. The course is a combination of on-the-job and in-centre training. The EBT co-ordinator will support both the student and employer.

These courses provides students with the opportunity to achieve Information Technology and Business Administration qualifications.

This programme combines centre-based learning with home-based learning and work experience where students are provided with the necessary information technology, office and personal effectiveness skills to obtain and retain employment or move on to further education.

NLN runs a number of courses known as Employer-Based Training, which is a rehabilitative foundation programme designed for young adults with mild learning difficulties. These courses can lead to a QQI Level 5 Major Award General Studies.

The courses called ‘Employer Based Training’ in NLN centres run for up to 12 months and are flexible courses that enables students to acquire practical skills with a host company in a skill area of their choice. The course is a combination of on-the-job and in-centre training-usually 60% on-the-job and 40% in-centre. The Employer Based Training instructor supports both the student and the employer. Students choose a training area that interests and suits them and the Employer Based Training instructor finds a suitable company to accommodate them in their locality.

This course aims to provide students with skills, knowledge, and competence in Information and Communication Systems, Database and Spreadsheet methods.

All students are supported in identifying their individual learning needs. This programme can leads to a QQI Level 5 Major Award in Information Processing for students who meet the award requirements.

Courses which lead to a Major Award in Office Administration equip students with the skills and competencies in computer software applications and general office skills to enable them to access further training or employment. Work placement is also part of these courses.

Courses which lead to a QQI Level 5 Major Award in Tourism with Business are delivered at our Sligo and Tralee NLN colleges and enables students to independently and effectively carry out a range of information, administrative and service functions in tourism-related enterprises or to progress to further or higher education and training.

The course is designed to enable students to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to obtain and retain employment in woodwork and related industries.

This course running at our Tralee centre offers students the opportunity to achieve a City & Guilds Level 1 Award / Certificate / Diploma in Construction Skills.

Event management has become an integral element of the Irish tourism offering. Demand is growing for high-calibre graduates who have the necessary skills to develop their careers in this exciting industry. 

The three-year course is designed to facilitate a transition from novice student to creative practitioner. Students are taught a variety of design and pratical skills to achieve this.

This highly practical course features a studio environment where students complete projects in a variety of 2D design disciplines, such as: branding; illustration; packaging; typography; advertising; layout; signage; websites; mobile devices; games; moving image video and animation.

This course equips you with the applied skills and knowledge needed to pursue a career in business, thus ensuring you will have a wide range of career options. In the first two years you will explore the fundamentals of business and from Year 3, you can specialise in an area of interest.

This dynamic and highly student-centred course is unique to the Wexford Campus. Students are provided with the opportunity to gain creative skills, creative knowledge, aesthetic awareness and professional experiences in contemporary visual art. A forum for exchanging diverse opinions and ideas is provided through group critique, field trips, and a visiting artists programme. 

This course is a four-year programme, which equips graduates with the theoretical, policy, legal and practical knowledge required to work in early years services. Learning is through experiential and self-directed learning activities, as well as through group work and presentations.

The final year research project is supervised by an experienced research team. Placement opportunities in each year of study supports learners to become competent early childhood educators. 

This course prepares graduates to work in social care providing support and assistance to vulnerable people in the community and in residential services. For example, social care workers gain employment working with groups such as children and young people at risk and/or who have been neglected and abused, people with disabilities and older people. 

Early childhood education or early learning and care, is a very rewarding profession that supports the development of young children from infancy and throughout the childhood years. Direct practice involves working with children by tailoring learning experiences to children’s individual needs. Supporting parents in their parenting role is also an essential part of the job.
