Fishing Vessel (Basic Safety Training) Regulations, 2001 (S.I. 587 of 2001) require all fishing vessel crew members to undergo Basic Safety Training. This three day programme is run at all of BIM’s training centres and consists of the following:

STCW-PST Personal Survival Techniques
STCW-EFA Elementary First Aid
SKL–FPSA Fire Prevention and Safety Awareness (BIM non-certified course given in addition by BIM)

The aim of the course is to provide the student with the skills and related knowledge in Manual Metal Arc (MMA) welding, M.I.G. welding and T.I.G. welding and to develop their attitudes, personal effectiveness and job seeking skills to enable them to obtain employment as welders.

The BCL degree focuses on experiential learning and developing practical legal skills while also providing you with opportunities to engage with industry and the wider legal profession. In particular, the Moot Court module gives you the chance to practise your court-room skills and gain a real insight into law in action. DCU has its own Moot Court room which is where you will participate in mock trials and practise skills such as advocacy, presenting evidence or cross examination. 

Individuals who seek to progress you career to higher level roles in the Beauty Industry, then the Professional Diploma in Beauty Therapy will support your ambitions.

You learn highly specialised skills in all aspects of Beauty Treatments, including laser, micro-dermabrasion and intense pulsed light treatments. There is an intensive focus on high level professional practice which will set-up you for a senior level role in the Beauty Treatments industry.

This course will enable students to work with world-renowned professional skincare and body products, such as Yonka, to develop practical expertise in a range of treatments. Students will complete case studies on guest clients for each module, performing treatments such as body massage and figure analysis, microdermabrasion and IPL, and learning correct use of body electrical machines.

As part of this Beauty Aesthetics and Body Treatments course, students actively design, set up and participate in the Institute’s commercial salon, which runs on a weekly basis. This experience empowers the students, building their confidence to make the transition to professional beauty therapist. Additional workshops may be offered in eyelash extensions, lash perming, BIAB nails and threading.

The aim of this training programme is to enable students to acquire the skills, knowledge and attitudes to work effectively as a beauty therapist. The programme aims to enable the student through practical experience to integrate the theoretical and practical aspects of working in the beauty industry.

We run a training Salon. This is to help learners to gain confidence, practice and work experience before they leave the centre. As well as gaining your VTCT qualification learners complete other QQI modules to help with their progression in their new career. This gives learners a great start in their Beauty Career.

The training required for ITEC produces beauty therapists that are an asset to any salon. It is the highest standard in Beauty Therapy qualifications. ITEC graduates are recognised by employers as therapists who work harder and aim higher. An ITEC Beauty Therapy qualification is an internationally recognised beauty qualification.

This course offers a comprehensive introduction to the latest Beauty Therapy techniques. Students explore a diverse range of areas such as manicure, pedicure, waxing, facials, and skincare. They also build a solid foundation in anatomy and physiology, which is essential for understanding the body's systems and how they relate to beauty treatments. Additionally, students have the opportunity to study holistic massage, gaining well-rounded skills in both traditional and holistic beauty practices.
