The objective of this course is to provide learners with the essential skills needed to advance toward potential employment as an Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA), working under the guidance and supervision of an Occupational Therapist (OT).

This full-time QQI Healthcare Support Course is designed to prepare students to work competently, safely and effectively as a Healthcare Assistant in a variety of settings such as nursing homes, hospitals and home help support. This course offers a fully accredited Dementia Care Module.

This course will enable you to acquire competencies and skills, to care for someone with a person-centred approach ensuring that empathy, dignity, respect, and confidentiality are fundamental to best practice. Students who undertake this one-year course in Physiotherapy studies will gain an understanding of the principles and practices of rehabilitation and an insight into how to assess and treat clients whose movement is restricted by illness, injury, disability or age. Learners will gain the skills needed by the HSE to work in the healthcare sector, which will help them to understand therapy programmes and support clients in restoring or improving their mobility.

Practical classes will be timetabled on-site at Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena and the National gymnastics Training Centre at Sports Campus Ireland Campus.

This course is aimed at students interested in pursuing a career in Occupational Therapy. Students who undertake this one-year course in Occupational Therapy studies will gain an understanding of the principles and practices of rehabilitation, treatment of injured, ill, or disabled patients through the therapeutic use of everyday activities. Students will develop an understanding of impaired mobility and its impact on human occupational performance and ability and the role of occupational therapy in current healthcare services. Students will gain an insight into the development and implementation of therapeutic programmes. Students will gain the skills needed by the HSE to work in the healthcare sector, which will help them to understand therapy programmes and support clients in restoring or improving their mobility.

The aim of this full-time one-year programme is to provide the learner with an understanding of treatment and therapeutic interventions in everyday activities in a variety of healthcare settings.

On completion of this programme learners will have the skills, knowledge and competencies to work under supervision in a variety of healthcare settings or to progress to further and or higher education and training in Ireland or the UK. This course will also equip students with basic skills in physiotherapy assistance.

This course is suitable for post leaving cert students and mature students who are interested in teaching (Primary school teaching, Post-Primary school teaching, or teaching in Further Education).

This award offers a wide range of modules which enables students to gain a critical awareness of the way in which the Irish Education system operates. Learners are also enabled to improve their communication, critical reflection and interpersonal skills, all of which are central to working in an educational setting.
