This course is designed to introduce the learner to the fundamentals of installation, configuration and maintenance of computer systems and basic networks. It also facilitates progression in education including further and higher, education or training.

This course will equip learners with the skills required to network and manage the proliferation of “smart” devices that will increasingly transform modern society. This course covers contemporary areas of Computer Networking and Information Security. Networking trains the student in all aspects of networks from Ethernet to Internet Protocol through to the configuration of Cisco network routers.

Information Security involves the securing of desktop computers and Networks from cyber attack, using current best practice to install and configure firewalls, Intrusion Detections Systems and anti malware software. The course also covers auditing and forensics.

This Cloud Computing course is designed to introduce students to the Cloud Computing discipline. Students become familiar with the fundamentals of software programming in languages which are Cloud standards. Networking, computer hardware and operating systems are also presented with an emphasis on how they relate to the cloud. Key modules in Virtualisation Support and Distributed Systems are also studied.

On completion successful students may progress to Cloud Computing Level 6, other education opportunities or to the labour market.

ICT Networking is an introductory course for those who want to find out whether a career in the ICT industry is the right fit for them. It is ideally suited for students who aspire to apprenticeships in the ICT industry and related fields. It is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills associated with areas of Computer Networking and Information Security. In this full-time one-year programme in Computer Networks with Software you will learn about the latest operating systems, computer hardware, software development and networking technologies, coupled with hands on practical experience. In addition, you will gain a strong foundation in cyber security.

Students will also have the opportunity to work with staff from the Department of Computer and Software Engineering at Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) to participate in projects involving the real-world applications of the Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, Machine Learning and Data Analytics. This LOETB-TUS collaboration promotes problem-based learning while enabling the students to experience the creativity and innovation of a rapidly evolving sector.
