The UCD Science (DN200) course offers 27 degree subjects categorised into streams. Students can study subjects from more than one stream in first year. It is also possible for students to change their stream in first year.

Combining Computer Science with Economics will allow graduates to use computing tools to study economics and to apply economic theories to computational settings, such as to build virtual marketplaces.

Our long-running Computer Science and Business joint programme provides graduates with the knowledge and expertise needed to work in the technical field of Computer Science along with the business management skills required to understand the fundamentals of markets, organisations and business management.

Data Science, also known as Big Data Analytics is the process of examining large amounts of data of a variety of types (big data) to uncover hidden patterns, unknown correlations and other useful information. Such information can provide competitive advantages over rival organizations and result in business benefits, such as more effective marketing and increased revenue. Data Science has in turn been the big enabler for the expansion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a truly mass-market technology. AI relies on the patterns found in data to make decisions.  

This new degree addresses current demands for expertise in the fast-changing world of communication. The programme emphasises the importance of English for effective communication. Through the study of English, fundamental skills are acquired and enhanced which are then transferable to either teaching or communications in the multimedia environment.

The Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Food Science & Nutrition will provide the student with a broad knowledge of food science, including food manufacturing and processing alongside nutrition and dietary analysis. You will gain a deep understanding about the relationship between diet and disease, and how changing consumer lifestyles can impact on our health, as well as how the modern food industry operates. You’ll also learn about food production and processing, and study the nutritional properties, quality and safety of food products, acquiring a knowledge of human biochemistry, nutrition and dietary analysis. 

Our Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Bioanalytical Science option provides a clear knowledge of the underlying concepts behind modern bioanalytical techniques and the application of these techniques in the areas of biotechnology, biopharmaceutical, and related industries and in environmental analysis.

You will gain technical competence in analytical biochemical, genetic, immunological and microbiologically-based analytical methodologies and the skills and knowledge required to work in the biotechnology, and biopharmaceutical industries as well as in state scientific agencies.

The Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Pharmaceutical & Medicinal Science option will prepare you for a career primarily as a pharmaceutical scientist. This degree course is intrinsically multidisciplinary in nature and will open a world of career opportunities across a diverse range of sectors. This degree course is intrinsically multidisciplinary in nature. You’ll spend extensive time studying in state-of-the-art laboratories, preparing you for the work environment upon graduation. You’ll study the full range of core science subjects, with particular emphasis on pharmaceutical science and medical devices. 

Our Science Education degree involves the study of both science and education over a four-year period after which you will be a fully qualified science teacher. UCC’s Science Education programme is an example of the concurrent model of teacher training which means that you study both science and education over the duration of the programme.

Students will gain a solid foundation in fundamental computing knowledge and the technical and creative skills of games development in topics such as; Programming, 3D Modelling and Animation, Games Design, Game Engine Development, 2D and 3D Character Animation and UX Design. Students will produce numerous portfolio pieces during the course, with the final year offering specialist options and a team project that involves the development of a substantial computer game.

Students are educated in the most current methodologies and technologies available to enhance the teaching of their subject areas at post-primary level. The degree programme includes four years of modules in Home Economics and Business Studies. These are taken concurrently with education modules, which include theoretical, pedagogical and professional studies along with a number of school placement experiences.
