This course covers both the creative and business aspects of the beauty and spa sector. Learning and practising in well-equipped workshops, you are encouraged and facilitated to further develop your creativity and also acquire strong business know-how. By combining technical beauty and spa skills with business/management competencies, the course equips you to work and progress in a wide range of beauty and spa settings.

The Department of History offers a range of modules. These include modules in aspects of political, social and cultural history, including courses on Irish migration, unconventional warfare, death and the afterlife, kingship in medieval Ireland and the social and political history of modern Ireland. 

The course reflects a demanding, broad and practical programme of study which will provide you with a firm foundation in both law and accounting. The combination allows you to make your choice of profession when you have a better knowledge of your strengths and of the law and accounting disciplines. The programme is four years in duration. During the first four semesters, in addition to studying the core subjects of Law and Accounting, you will also study Economics, Taxation and Mathematics.

Electrical and Electronic Engineering involves developing technologies required for our future needs in such areas as communication, electrical energy, transport, healthcare and entertainment. Electrical and Electronic Engineers are involved in advances in medical technology, mobile phones, wireless communications, electrical power systems, renewable energy, electric vehicles, e-commerce and the internet-of-things. 

History at Ulster will develop a wide range of written, verbal, and analytical skills through the study of the historical processes that have shaped modern society. You will explore topics such as Film and the Vietnam War, Witchcraft and Magic, the Russian Revolution, United States’ Foreign Policy and many more.

The Ulster University English teaching team introduce you to the basics of critical writing and literary theory in year one, allowing you to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for success in your later work. Following the groundwork of this introductory year, you will be able to choose from a wide range of options reflecting the interests and expertise of the lecturers. Subjects that we teach include women's writing, narratives of slavery, historical fiction, modern drama, detective novels, gothic and romantic writing, the Victorian novel, modern Irish writers, contemporary fiction and love poetry.

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) makes available to you a wide range of Humanities and Social Science subjects in a course that is comparable to any Arts degree nationally and worldwide.

Students on this programme are encouraged to see the world through the study of subjects such as English Literature, Sociology, Irish, French, Spanish, Law, Religious Studies, Psychology and Theatre Studies over a three year period; not only to develop expertise in two subjects areas, but to develop a questioning and creative approach to the modern world.

Science (Common Entry) was designed as a common entry course for the student who has a keen interest in science, but is unsure of which area they would like to specialise in. This course gives the student a flavour of a variety of different scientific disciplines, allowing them to keep their options open when applying to study science at third level.

Drama Studies

The course explores the relationship between the theory and practice of Drama and Theatre to discover how and why they work. The strong developmental emphasis of the courses requires a particular blend of practical and academic skills. In addition to a high level of analytical ability and creativity you will need to possess resourcefulness and self-motivation.

Students combine this subject with their choice of Italian, Russian or Spanish.

Engineering Technology Management was created for students with an essential combination of core engineering. Applied Psychology is a scientific study especially concerned with the practical applications of the mind, behaviour and of mental processes in relation to everyday life. This includes engagement with education, health, crime, advocacy, counselling and mental health. This degree in Applied Psychology gives you the opportunity to study psychology and society, politics and activism, crime, research skills, social, behavioural, cognitive, developmental psychology, and neuropsychology.

The Culinary Entrepreneurship degree offers a unique combination of culinary and enterprise modules that equip you with the skills to work – or set up your own business – in the food industry. You will develop knowledge and skills in all aspects of culinary techniques, as well as in management, marketing, finance and innovation to support your personal and professional development. The course combines creativity, artistry, business acumen and experiential learning to provide an enjoyable and engaging student experience.  

English Literature

English Literature covers a broad range of literatures written in the English language, from Chaucer to the present day. The aim of the course is to help students acquire a thorough knowledge of the history of differing literatures while also enabling them to develop a sophisticated critical consciousness and an awareness of critical and cultural theory.

Studying two languages at Trinity will enable you to develop your skills to a level where you can communicate confidently and competently on virtually any subject and in every situation. You will gain deeper familiarity through the study of their literature, culture, history and politics, and you will gain competencies in understanding and successfully navigating cultural differences.

German Studies at MIC not only includes language learning, but also offers a different perspective on European media, film, literature, history and different cultures and provides students with skills much needed today.

The Department of German Studies offers an exciting and wide-ranging language programme that enables students to excel in their language and intercultural skills, be it as beginners or advanced German students.

BESS is a uniquely flexible degree programme offering you different degree options across the disciplines of Business, Economics, Political Science and Sociology. It provides students with a broad education and you specialise and graduate with a Single Honours or Joint Honours degree with another subject, or a Major with a Minor.

It also offers a high level of flexibility in two very important ways: from the second year onwards students are allowed to (a) choose the specific degree they wish to take and, (b) choose individual modules within their chosen degree path.

The aim of this course is to produce graduates with knowledge and skills in agriculture with a focus on sustainability. While the course provides the students with a sound theoretical basis for understanding complex agricultural and environmental phenomena within a sustainable development context, its focus is on the practical application of knowledge and skills including agri‑business and on‑farm settings.

In the global economy, businesses deal with more complex issues concerning government regulations and international trade policies. Equally, legal expertise is required to contend with constantly evolving commercial organisations and business practices.

The BSc (Hons) Applied Sports Science with Strength and Conditioning prepares students to work with children, youths, and adults in various sporting environments. This course focuses on the applied nature of exercise science.

The course content will be delivered through theory and practical classes. We place a significant emphasis on preparing students to be able to deliver the knowledge through practical coaching sessions. Over the four years, students will study the components of fitness, the principles of training, sports nutrition, sports psychology, learn how to analyse biomechanical movements and the science of sport.

The BSc (Hons) Applied Sports Science with Performance Technology prepares students to work in an emerging field of sports analysis. This course is underpinned with exercise science to provide students with the background knowledge of developing sports performance.

The study of Classical Languages is concerned with the language, literature and thought of either Ancient Greece or Ancient Rome. You will choose to study either Greek or Latin. Through the reading of literature in the original language and the examination of key aspects of ancient history, you will develop a thorough knowledge of the classical world and a critical approach to textual and material culture.

Students combine this subject with their choice of French or German.
