The aim of this Minor Award is to support practitioners who are dealing with those bereaved by suicide.  It is designed to allow learners to understand the complex nature of suicide bereavement and the psychological havoc that is created in the lives of suicide survivors. It will also introduce the learners to a range of individual and group interventions to help facilitate the healing process. Learners on this programme will engage in teaching, discussion and engagement with key scientific literature related to the post-suicide landscape, the key principles of intervening with this client group and the therapeutic resources and responses that are appropriate.

This course has been designed to enable participants to improve their sports skills while gaining recognised qualifications to work in the Sports, Fitness and Leisure industries. This programme focuses on developing the knowledge and skills necessary to work in the fitness and sport industries.

The programme is designed to produce coaching professionals capable of working in Strength and Conditioning and Health and Fitness related fields.

This programme will provide the learner with a specialised education in a broad range of Strength and Conditioning and Health and Fitness disciplines. It will also equip the learner with the knowledge and skills to independently administer a medium to long-term sport, health and fitness, physical activity and Strength and Conditioning programme of development.

The programme is designed to produce specialist coaching professionals capable of working in strength and conditioning, health and fitness and physical activity related fields. It will also equip the learner with the knowledge and skills to lead long term sport, health and fitness, physical activity and strength and conditioning programme development.

This course is designed to help students develop the knowledge, skills and analytical techniques in the sub-disciplines of sport and exercise sciences. Students gain the knowledge and skill to help athletes and players achieve optimum sports performance.

This three-year honours degree, offered for the first time in 2017 offers practice based training to students who are interested in a career in professional theatre, TV and film. It provides opportunities in specialist areas within stage management and technical theatre (e.g. sound, lighting and construction), professional placements and a major research project relevant to a student’s choice of specialism. Classes on production management, design (set, lighting, costume and sound) and managing your own freelance business will also be introduced during the final year.

The Stage Design programme is purposely designed to allow students to either specialise on one area of stage design (set, costume OR lighting design) or to combine disciplines as desired (set AND costume design for example, or set AND lighting design).

The course is designed to complement the existing Master in Fine Art (Playwriting) and the Master in Fine Art (Theatre Directing). Students on all three programmes will work together in collaboration, developing a shared understanding of contemporary theatre practice and a collective appreciation of the dedication and commitment required to make innovative performances happen.

In addition to the core classes and workshops, individual and group tuition from The Lir’s Head of Design will be a key feature of the training. In addition, master classes by visiting practitioners will supplement the student experience. Professional placements are a key feature of the programme and all students will showcase their work in public productions at the culmination of the course. Students can opt to take this course either part-time (24 months) or full-time (12 months).

Full-time and part-time students will take three concurrent modules in the first two terms. The final module (Production Design) will be taught in the third term and subsequent summer months (for full-time students) or in the second year of the course (for part-time students) and will culminate with a professional production staged in one of The Lir’s performance studios. Term Three will be supplemented by an ongoing series of master classes from professional directors and theatre makers.
