This course provides the learners with the knowledge, skills and competence to pursue a career as a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant. This blended learning course is delivered two days online and two days on campus with occasional scheduled-on campus workshops.

The learner will gain knowledge and skills that can be applied to a wide range of speech and language therapy sectors catering for people of all ages who have difficulties with communication including eating and swallowing.  Students will also develop an understanding of how to assist Speech and Language Therapists and families to best manage clients’ challenges in relation to voice, feeding and speaking difficulties.

This QQI level 5 qualification enables graduates to work as a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant as per the HSE appointed grade. Alternatively, learners can use the programme as a foundation for further study in health care, speech and language and social care.

Learners will develop an awareness of how to assist the Speech and Language Therapist to help their patients manage challenges in relation to speech, language, voice, and swallowing difficulties. They will also acquire the relevant theoretical and practical skills, and gain work experience in a healthcare setting.

Speech and language therapists enable people with communication disorders and swallowing disorders to achieve their maximum potential. They are involved in assessing clients’ communication and swallowing difficulties, and developing treatment programmes to meet their specific needs. They work closely with other members of the team, such as nurses, doctors, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, teachers, etc, and work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, primary care health centres and schools. 

The BSc Speech and Language Therapy provides the knowledge, skills and confidence for a career that will improve the lives of children and adults with communication disorders or swallowing difficulties. Over the four years of the course, you will gain specialist knowledge  for a rewarding career, as well as general skills in communication, problem-solving and teamwork.

This course provides students with the knowledge, practical skills and qualifications required to pursue a career as a Special Needs Assistant in a variety of educational contexts and community care settings.

This course qualifies participants to work as SNAs in a creche, playgroup, primary and secondary school classrooms or special schools. Learners will attain the knowledge and skills necessary to support children in their learning environment. The course is suitable for both school leavers and mature students seeking a formal qualification.

This course will enhance and further develop your skills and competencies needed to work as a Special Needs Assistant (SNA) in primary, post primary education and other care settings. You will learn about “disability” and how to support people in the workplace and school environment.

The SNA role has become a vital part of Irish education. Special Needs Assistants are now found in most classrooms in Primary Education and often in Secondary too. This course concentrates on specific special needs, both physical and intellectual, and teaches how to get the best for the client out of the education system in spite of any disadvantage experienced. The approach encompasses practical solutions as well as a thorough understanding of the issues. For people interested in dedicating themselves to this vital role in our society, this course is invaluable.

On completion of this programme learners will have the skills, knowledge and competencies to work independently and under supervision in a range of Education settings and or to progress to further and higher education and training. Learners may gain employment in school settings both Primary and Post Primary.

This course is designed to prepare and equip candidates with the skills and knowledge to work as Special Needs Assistants/Personal Assistants in various education settings and day care centres. The course is designed for those with a genuine interest in working with children, young people and persons with additional needs.
