About Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge (TEG)
Céard é TEG?
Cuireann Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge (TEG) sraith scrúduithe agus cáilíochtaí ar fáil do dhaoine fásta atá ag foghlaim na Gaeilge. Tá beagnach 15,000 iarrthóir tar éis tabhairt faoi scrúdú TEG ó cuireadh tús leis in 2005.
Cuirimid scrúduithe ar fáil i gcomhthéacsanna éagsúla:
- Mar riachtanas iontrála ar chúrsaí fochéime agus iarchéime san oideachas
- I gcúrsaí earcaíochta
- I meánscoileanna ar fud na tíre
- Sa státseirbhís
Anuas air sin, déanann an-chuid daoine scrúdú TEG chun cur lena gcuid cáilíochtaí nó mar chaitheamh aimsire. Is féidir le haon duine tabhairt faoi scrúdú TEG agus níl teorainn aoise i gceist.
Tugann scrúduithe TEG deis d’iarrthóirí, ó ghlantosaitheoirí go leibhéil ardchumais, a gcumas a dheimhniú sa labhairt, sa chluastuiscint, sa léitheoireacht agus sa Ghaeilge scríofa.
Is córas scrúdaithe & teastasaithe é TEG agus ní chuirimid ranganna ar fáil. Ní gá d‘iarrthóirí freastal ar chúrsa faoi leith, ach más mian leo, is féidir eolas a fháil maidir le ranganna atá bunaithe ar shiollabais TEG anseo.
Ní hamháin go gcabhraíonn TEG le foghlaimeoirí dul chun cinn a dhéanamh ina gcuid staidéir ar an Ghaeilge, is amhlaidh a úsáideann roinnt eagraíochtaí TEG sa phróiseas earcaíochta agus roghnaithe, lena chinntiú go mbeidh na scileanna teanga cuí ag na hiarrthóirí a cheapfar.
Cuireann siollabais agus scrúduithe TEG spriocanna foghlama cinnte roimh mhúinteoirí agus roimh fhoghlaimeoirí le go mbeidh na foghlaimeoirí in ann líofacht sa Ghaeilge a bhaint amach, céim ar chéim.
Faoi láthair, cuirtear scrúduithe ar fáil ag cúig leibhéal éagsúla. Is féidir le hiarrthóirí tabhairt faoin scrúdú cainte amháin (páirtchreidiúint), más mian leo cáilíocht faoi leith a bhaint amach sa teanga labhartha. Nó is féidir leo an scrúdú iomlán a dhéanamh (lánchreidiúint). Moltar d’iarrthóirí féachaint ar na siollabais, scrúduithe samplacha agus ar thuairisc an Phríomhscrúdaitheora ag na leibhéil éagsúla. Tá an méid sin ar fáil ag na naisc thíos:

Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge (TEG) provides a series of general Irish language proficiency exams and qualifications for adult learners of Irish. Almost 15,000 candidates have sat a TEG exam since TEG began in 2005.
We provide exams in various contexts:
- As an entry requirement for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in education;
- In recruitment processes;
- In secondary schools;
- In the Civil Service
Some candidates also take exams because they want to gain a qualification in Irish or because it is a pastime.
TEG exams give candidates an opportunity to show their ability in speaking, listening, reading and writing Irish at different levels, from absolute beginner to intermediate and advanced levels.
As well as being the preferred method for learners to make progress in the language, a number of organizations now use TEG exams in recruitment and selection procedures as a means of ensuring that potential employees/students have the required language skills.
TEG syllabuses and exams provide both teachers and learners with clear learning objectives and a structured step-by-step path to fluency in Irish.
Candidates have the option of taking the oral exam only (partial certification), with a view to gaining specific certification in the spoken language. Alternatively, candidates can take the full exam (full certification).
Exams are offered at five levels at present and are taken each year by candidates with various levels of fluency. Candidates are advised to look at the syllabuses, exam papers and chief examiner’s report at the various levels. These resources are available at the following links:
