This sector would suit anyone who is passionate about animals whether domestic, farm animals or endangered species. Education and training courses combine practical hands-on skills with academic theory. Vets and veterinary nurses look after the health of both small and large animals. There are varied careers in animal science where you will learn about their development, genetics, breeding, nutrition and animal behaviour. Veterinary practices, livestock farms, zoos, the equine industry, animal charities, conservation and research organisations are all sources of employment.

The number of households with pets is on the increase. Opportunities for work include kennels, grooming, animal training and the retail sector. You may even decide to set up your own pet care or equine tourism business.
