The Courts
Some of the crucial roles for keeping the courts service operating include Court Clerk/Registrars and Stenographers/Court Reporters. They carry out many important functions such as, taking charge of the court sittings and recording a transcript of the legal proceedings for future reference.
The Courts Service of Ireland is an independent State Agency which has a wide variety of interesting career opportunities. They are responsible for managing and administration of the courts in Ireland. While a law degree or a background in law is required for some specialist positions, many others are more generalist in nature.
Government
As well as the Department of Justice, the government employs legal professionals in many other government departments. In this role you would advise government officials on legal matters. Specialist lawyers are responsible for drafting legislation in the Office of the Parliamentary Counsel to Government and for providing litigation, advisory and conveyancing services in the Chief State Solicitors. Both are constituent elements of the Office of the Attorney General.

Law Firms
The Legal Services Regulatory Authority has noted the extent of legal services provided by corporate law firms in Ireland. Nearly twenty eight percent of practising solicitors work in either the main law firms or large public sector bodies.
Law firms not only employ solicitors but a wide range of other support and administrative staff. These include receptionists, administrators and legal secretaries. Paralegals are legal professionals who work in law firms supporting solicitors. It is an ideal role to gain crucial work experience prior to training as a solicitor or barrister or if you are interested in varied and stimulating work in the legal sector.
