Maritime tourism covers predominantly water-based activities such as sea angling (boat and shore); water sports (sailing, boating, water skiing, jet skiing, surfing, kayaking, scuba diving etc); seaside resorts/trips (swimming, bird watching, whale/dolphin watching, nature reserves, and eco-tourism etc).
These provide a variety of job prospects for instructors, activity centres and boat tours. There are also opportunities for specialist shops in the area to sell the equipment and clothing needed for these activities.
Ireland is also world famous for the quality of its angling, attracting thousands of tourists every year to fish along its rivers and coastline. These visitors don’t just spend money on angling, they stay in hotels, eat out in restaurants and spent money in stores.
There are not as many jobs available working in angling itself and those working in the area will have a real passion for the activity. But for those with that passion and the necessary knowledge, you can look for jobs with companies offering guided tours of Irelands waterways, or working in fishing tackle stores, where staff offer a wealth of information and expertise to help anglers stay stocked up with everything they need.
