Ireland is renowned for its rich, vibrant cultural heritage which attracts many visitors who appreciate our language, literature, music, dance, arts, galleries, theatres, films, museums and festivals. Our award-winning actors, poets, writers and musicians are acclaimed around the world. It is recognised that art and culture have a significant economic impact and enriches the fabric of our society.
Yet for many, working conditions in this sector can be challenging. To alleviate financial constraints that prevent artists from focusing on their creative work a basic income for the arts scheme has been introduced to support and nurture creative talent. Funding is also available through the Arts Council for artists, art organisations and groups working within the sector. Original and creative works by writers, composers, visual artists and sculptors may be eligible for an Artist’s exemption tax from the sale of their work.
The annual Culture night has been a huge success in promoting the arts, celebrating culture and bringing over seventeen hundred unique events to audiences throughout Ireland.
As well as working as a creative artist in your chosen specialism, there is a diverse range of career opportunities which are critical to the promotion and management of the sector. These include arts management, marketing, education and administration, artistic director, curator, creative programme co-ordinators, project managers, events assistants, museum and tour guides to name just a few.
