Conserving History

Ireland has historical sites covering the entire expanse of the island and the full breadth of it’s history, from buildings constructed in the twentieth century all the way back to passage tombs that are thousands of years old such as Newgrange and Carrowmore.

These historical sites are central to Irelands tourism sector. Great effort is placed into the preservation of historical sites, they are protected by regulation with limits placed on how they can be developed while keeping the historical value intact. This creates specialist jobs in the maintenance and redevelopment of historical sites.

History also comes in the form of smaller artefacts, some of which may be kept in buildings they originated from, but others will be kept in museums and art galleries. Archaeologists excavate sites of interest, discovering and researching object they find, which could date back decades, or all the way back to stone tools from the first settlers in Ireland.
