You don’t have to build a career in the sector to help people. In fact, most people involved in their communities have other jobs and careers. A massive number of Irish people are involved in volunteering. This can range from helping at your local GAA or rugby club, helping raise money for a good cause or helping disadvantaged youth.
There are many reasons to volunteer, whether it’s a desire to help people, a way to meet people or wanting to contribute to something meaningful. These are all great reasons to engage in volunteering and it’s best to have a genuine motivation for engaging in community work, but it’s worth remembering that volunteering can help your career, showing you’re a well-rounded active person who is working on developing your skillset.
