Local Government in Ireland is made up of the local authorities and councils throughout Ireland. These are responsible for delivering the essential services we depend on every day.

Local Government is fundamentally democratic; the goal is that people in each locality have control over the decisions that effect them. Local councillors are elected to represent their constituents and ensure that this principle is carried out. Councillors are essentially part time workers, but councils and local authorities employ many full time staff to deliver services. These include administration staff, maintenance staff for roads and infrastructure as well as planners and civil engineers to review development occurring in the locality.
