This is a sector highly affected by technology. Great changes to an administrator’s workday have already occurred due to now commonplace technologies, such as computers, video conferencing, cloud computing and mobile phones.
These have sped up the workday, making some administration tasks simpler as meetings can be arranged, scheduled and rooms booked in a few keystrokes. With video conferencing everyone doesn’t even have to be in the same room. But dependence on technology means that you will need to be competent with different devices and software and capable of troubleshooting any issues that occur.
Technology also means the documents you work with are much less likely to be on paper. Instead, work will be conducted with electronic files. This eliminates the need for physical storage, but electronic files still need to be organised. Administrators now must keep track of multiple versions of files, ensure they’re stored in a database in a consistent logical manner and make sure that only the correct people have access to them. In many way’s, technology is changing work rather than making it easier.
