What were the main 'career decision' milestones in your life so far?

I would say that it was making the decision to study Management. The next one would be moving to Ireland from Romania to continue working in McDonald's.  And finally the decision I made to make a career with McDonald's.

Who are the people who most influenced your career direction?

That person is my wife who also works for McDonald's and for longer than me.  She had a major influence on the decisions I made with regard to my career. Also I have to mention the influence of my previous Restaurant Manager and Business Consultant.

How did you go about getting your current job?

It was my first job. After getting my diploma in Management in Commerce and Tourism I applied for a job as Trainee Manager in McDonald's in Romania. There were no positions available at the time but I was offered a job as a crew member which I took and here I am now.

Describe a typical day?

There is no typical day in our job. I would try to plan one day a week to do administration work but even that can be disrupted by more important matters. And then every day has it's charm by being unpredictable. At the end of the day the results achieved are a reward for the team and satisfaction for me.

What are the main tasks and responsibilities?

My responsibilities are for  the overall operations of the restaurant. It is the engine of our Company because by ensuring the restaurant is performing well we are actually developing people to contribute to the functioning of the organisation. I am also responsible for the profitability of the restaurant.

What are the main challenges?

At the moment the main challenge in my job has been moving to a new restaurant and having a new in the management team and crew.  I am also facing the challenge of changing the relationship of my restaurant with the Community while also leading our team and making it perform.

What do you like most?

I like having a different day in work, every day.  And this is how my colleagues like it as well - because it is challenging.

Is there anything that isn't great?

I don't like it when people are late for their job.

What particular skills do you bring to your workplace?

I think the skills that I bring are those learned by me in University.  I also have good people skills which are very important in my job. I also think that my patience has been of great benefit to me.

What subjects did you take in school and how have these influenced your career path?

The educational structure in Romania is different to here, so we were studying everything up to University. I then decided to go for a career in management. I made the best choice!

What is your education to date?

Cosmin Tudor, Restaurant Manager

All my studies were in Romania from primary school until finishing with the Diploma in Management in Commerce and Tourism. In total I studied 16 years which included all subjects and also 12 years in French.

After that I have taken courses as part of McDonald's Management Development Programme, the most recent one was in Situational Leadership which has enhanced my management skills.

What aspects of your education have proven most important for your job?

Of course the Diploma in Management.  Also all courses done were at the right time to help me to build my knowledge and experience which have helped me achieve promotion.

What have been the most rewarding events in your career so far?

The satisfaction of having my first restaurant.  Also as a store manager being involved in a training project and having visits from all over Europe by their training departments.

What personal qualities do you have that helps you in your career?

Cosmin Tudor, Restaurant Manager

I am an analytical person and also I have lots of patience. And I don't like bad results.

What is your dream job?

One in which I get to work with my family, where my only job is to entertain my kids and to spend good quality time with my wife and our family. And get paid for it of course!!!  Is that possible?!

Does your job allow you to have a lifestyle you are happy with?

I have a family so when I finish work my wife and I take some time to discuss what happened during the day and then we concentrate on our family - we have two young kids.

What advice would you give to someone considering this job?

You would need to to be patient, have perseverance and have good people skills.

What are the three most important personal characteristics required for the job?

Patience, ability to adapt to changes very quickly and being proactive.

Yes. And if there are no more internal courses available, the Company offers you the choice of external courses that I can benefit from. I intend to do the Dale Carnegie leadership course next.

What kinds of work experience would provide a good background for this position?

Anything involving working with people and getting results through them. They are the most important resource in our job.
